The African Safari Lodge Foundation, a South African organization, will be working with several public and private sector partners to develop an ecotourism lodge benefiting three communities – together called the Chemucane – on the coast of southern Mozambique. Construction of this 30-room lodge is part of a broader Ministry of Tourism master plan that will ensure equitable and sustainable alternatives to the status quo, which caters to the beach-oriented South African holiday tourism market. The project will provide skills in construction and hotel operation to local residents, create jobs within the lodge, and have a positive impact on the local supply chain. The African Safari Lodge Foundation will be working closely with Technoserve, the Bell Foundation, the Peace Parks Foundation, and the World Bank Community Equity Fund.

Strategic Direction: 1 Strengthen protection and management in undercapacitated and emerging protected areas in 3 priority key biodiversity areas
