IDEP is working in Karakelang Island, in the Sangihe-Talaud archipelago, in the far northern tip of Indonesia. They are promoting adoption of permaculture zones with core zones of protection surrounded by productive use zones. At the same time, they are teaching the communities to be less reliant on chemical fertilizers and to market organic food products.
